Behind Buzmi
Hey, creator of Buzmi here
A while ago I was in Mexico, sitting by the beach, listening to Illenium. Then my phone started ringing.
It was a delivery driver back in Toronto, buzzing my condo.
I knew exactly what was happening because it had already happened too many times before. If I answered, I'd get hit with a $12 a day roaming charge. If I didn't, I'd be spending my first day back home tracking down missed deliveries and hoping my packages didn't disappear.
Both options sucked.
After missing a few more deliveries, I got fed up and decided to fix it properly.
I built Buzmi for myself. The goal was simple. If someone buzzes my condo, the door should just unlock automatically, no matter where I am in the world, without me having to think about it or touch my phone.
Once it worked, I shared it with a couple friends. They shared it with theirs. Before I knew it, people I'd never met were asking me to help with their buildings.
So I turned it into a real product.
Today, Buzmi works whether you want the simplest possible just let deliveries in setup, or you're the kind of person who's super paranoid about security and wants everything tightly controlled. It also works great for Airbnbs and short term rentals. Personally, my favourite part is never having to carry a condo fob again.
I still use it every day at my own place. My friends all use it at theirs too. If it breaks, my packages don't get delivered and I have a bunch of angry friends, so you can be damn sure I'm on top of it.
